++----------------------------------------------++ Shortly after the previous update my workload went nuts, AltPress cover with Paramore and more press/album art shoots I can could. Along the way I also decided I wanted to be closer to the love in my life, so I'm moving to SEATTLE! Well Bellingham to be exact, but close enough. As of August 1st I will be officially relocated and booking shoots in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. Bands in the area please get in touch, as well as those traveling through. Nervous Energies is going with me as obviously so all sessions will now be filmed from Seattle as well. If that wasn't enough, I also decided to work on my first photobook! It will be a photo journey through my move from Birmingham to Bellingham with personal stories, all kind of nature/travel shots along the way, plus a few suprises along the way. More info on this will come via press release which will be reposted on this site. I'm extremely excited for my transition to the Pacific Northwest. New site is still under construction, moreso on the backburner till the move is complete but will be well worth the wait. So again, until then here's a couple new shots...

Pick up Benjamin Gibbard's new solo record "Former Lives" tomorrow, Oct 16th. ++----------------------------------------------++ The past two months I worked with Gizmodo/Intel and KIA Motors on two different video projects, check out the photos and video interviews below! First, Gizmodo & Intel sent me to San Francisco back in August. They wanted to film me shooting photographs for 48 hours and also to complete a photo challenge. My challenge was to find the best competitive gaming in San Francisco. Luckily, Southtown Arcade came to my rescue with some of the most intense Marvel vs Capcom 3 battles I have ever seen. Secondly, KIA Motors & Complex Magazine asked me to watch the newest ad for the KIA Soul and create a photoshoot that was related to it. The ad featured a time traveling car so I decided to create a makeshift UFO landing with a girl discovering the site. KIA/Complex liked the idea and we decided to not only shoot it, but make it an actualy poster. They sent a film crew down to Birmingham to interview me and film behind the scenes at the shoot. ++----------------------------------------------++ Birmingham was hit with more tornadoes this morning. Trussville, Clay, Pinson, Tarrant and a few other places were hit hard. If you live in town and here of something to help, please volunteer your time. A lot of people in a lot of communities I love are now in needand this is the time to help. TOUCHE AMORE (full version - click) ++----------------------------------------------++ Hello everyone! It's that time of year again for my charity photoshoots. I shoot a couple press photographs for your band in return you sponsor a child in Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and buy the selected gifts on the child's wish list. You get to have 100% rights of the photographs I shoot for you and in the process you are directly making a child's Christmas better. I AM IN NO WAY AFFLIATED WITH THE SALVATION ARMY. I just think this is a great way to give back to the community of Birmingham where I live instead of asking for random money donations. Below is all the info/guidelines etc you will need to know about this if you are interested in participating.
Please read everything below, then contact me if interested: ryan@ryanrussell.net. You must get in touch now if you want to do a shoot, space is limited and reservations will not be accepted after November 28th. The shoots begin starting today till December 8th. How to participate in the charity band photoshoots: 2. There are only so many spots available for me to do these shoots a week, due to the demand some bands will be turned away. It is a first come first serve situation so please get in touch today if you want to try and book a date. 3. On the day of the shoot we will meet up adopt a child online then go and shoot 1-2 locations. After photographs we'll gol to a department store to buy everything on the child's list and box it up to be shipped to the Salvation Army's collection center. I handle all the shipping for you. You will not need to spend any money to book the date, you will only be spending money when you buy the gifts day of the shoot. 4. Most of the child's wishlist will cost between $75-$150 depending on the child's wants/needs. Your band will purchase the appropriate amount of gifts the day we do the photographs. If for some reason this is not possible time wise for you we will make arragements before the shoots just let me know. 5. Your band will have 100% free rights to the photographs for album, press, merch, etc. No strings attached. 6. Above all you are directly helping a child in need for this Christmas and that's a wonderful thing. If you have any other questions feel free to email me and ask away! -

I had gone to the Alabama/N. Texas game two days before and it was a real pleasure to sit in and listen to all the calls for the program. Thirdly, Death Cab for Cutie played in Birmingham at the Alabama Theatre on October 6th. Ben is a huge baseball fan and I wanted to take him over to Rickwood to have a look around. Nick and I always have some sort of massive foodbrodown when we're together so I had to take him over to the Taco Truck in West Homewood. New Found Glory in Atlanta at the Masquerade ++----------------------------------------------++ Hey guys! So it's been forever since I've written an actual news update. I guess I assumed everyone who checks the site follows me on twitter so there was no need, it is definitely not the case. I've shot a lot over 2010 - 2011 and been super busy starting up my NERVOUS ENERGIES music sessions videos and "record label". I put record label in quotations because it's more so me releasing cassettes and vinyl of bands I'm friends with or enjoy, just doing it for fun. I seem to always get distracted every few months when I start overhauling the site to switch it to a completely alphabetical based photo listing instead of chronological as it is now. There's just too many shoots and too many sessions to film and it's been neglected. I have hundreds of photographs I never posted over the entire mid 2009 to present span that will be posted once the new version of the site goes up so hopefully it'll be worth the wait. In the meantime #1 - I put up 3 TAKING BACK SUNDAY live prints for sale in my ETSY store.
